Human Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy Center

Public architectural complex for health use planned in the main axis of the Veterinary Campus of the University of Zaragoza. The project proposed the creation of a building that is converted into a national centre for research into Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy in Animals. The centre was developed with different spaces for each specific activity. The laboratory areas fulfil the conditions required for BSL3 classification (zone with a high risk of biological contamination). The rest of the areas are general and present no risk of contamination. Its design proposed an architectural solution based on the formalisation of three articulated volumes in its points of access and connection, with a linear floor, on which the different rooms are used as long corridors by way of the primary axes of the building. This project was awarded first place in the public bid.
